It's finally not to early to talk about the next-generation of consoles! (Check out our feature on what's going on in the next-gen right here.) Although there's no official announce of the Xbox 720, Microsoft's no-doubt carefully constructed launch hype seems to be already underway, people. The screenshot you see above, taken from the trailer for upcoming robot-beat-up movie Real Steel, clearly shows an Xbox 720 advertisements in the stands of the giant-robot-fighting stadium.
Real Steel is a science-fiction movie set in the near future, so it could be explained away as a bit of poetic license on the part of the film-makers, the real world of big budget movie financing doesn't work that way. The ads you see in the trailer are all for real products from real companies (Coke, Cadillac, etc.), and it stands to reason these companies both paid for and approved the ads in the trailer. So while this can't really be taken as a confirmation of the name (and existence) of the Xbox 720, and it's no-doubt tongue-in-cheek, it's a "real" ad... kind of. I mean, I expect a new logo when the thing really launches, but as far as raising awareness, it works.

I don't necessarily buy it, which is why I didn't already post this. Since it's set in the future I think it is just showing something made up for the movie.

Just a movie and if that's real that is the worst name I have ever heard and I won't buy it. The progression of consoles means just that progression. Right now they can't put anything in a new console that the current xbox can't do. 3d is already in the consoles and that's probably the newest thing out right now. Screw blu ray even if the new "'720" has it what else are they going to put in? If it's announced and it's amazing I'll consider it, but chances are no gamer right now is willing to shell out another $2-400 on another console.

I think they said something like a 2015 release, but by then, I'll most likely be totally done with Xbox. lol

I agree with twisted.
It's pretty obvious that it's just for the movie since the movie is set in the future.

My reasoning:

1.) I Guarantee MS can/will come up with a better name rather than "Xbox 720"
2.) They are still improving/changing the Xbox 360 so that the hardware can be used to the full potential, why would they start "advertising" for a new console. I think that would hurt sales if people know there is a better system coming out soon, why buy a new 360?

G4 probably just needed an article to get a little bit of traffic.

i dont like how xbox 720 sounds, it sounds like first graders made that name, im sure they could come up with a better name?

plus, someone said on the site that Microsoft has a good 2-3years before a new console comes out
