& ODST - How to do Real Time Halo on a JTAG'd Xbox 360
How to do Real Time Halo Modding on a JTAG'd Xbox 360 For Halo 3 and ODST By Twis7eD of InsomniacGamerZ.net This tutorial will teach you how to mod in real time on Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. This means that you will be able to mod the maps(.map files) on your computer while you're playing and poke the changes and see them happen before your eyes. This will allow you to change what you shoot, how high you jump, how fast you run, and tons of other things. Requirements: A JTAG'd Xbox 360 Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST disc or ISO Alteration with the ability to do RTH and hacked XeX's(Search Google for "RTELauncher.xex" if you don't have Exclusive membership on IGZ. The first post on Google has the download links.) The memory editing patch for your NAND FreeBOOT .032 or .030(XBR is NOT okay) Whichever .map you want to mod 1. Turn your JTAG on. 2. Go to XeXmenu or FreeStyle Dash. (Skip steps 3-5 if you already have Halo 3 and(or) Halo 3: ODST on your HDD) 3. Create a folder wherever you like. To create a folder press Y and go to 'Create'. A box will come up asking you want to name the folder. Name it 'Halo 3' or 'Halo 3 ODST' (depending on which game you are going to mod). 4. Your disc tray should now open and another message should pop up on your screen. Put your Halo 3 or ODST disc in the tray and manually close the tray. Wait until you hear the disc start to spin and then press 'Confirm' on your screen. 5. Wait for the disc to finish ripping to your HDD. 6. Plug your HDD into your computer or connect to it via FTP. If you are connecting through FTP, you will need the program FlashFXP. Here is what your settings should look like when connecting to your Xbox(Your IP will be different): ![]() The Username is xbox. The password is xbox. The Server or URL is your Xbox's IP. If you are connecting your Hard Drive to your computer, than you are going to need to navigate to the folder where you ripped Halo 3 to. 7. Now find the hacked XeX's that came with the modified Alteration. ![]() 8. Rename the Halo3RTH.xex to default.xex if you are modding Halo 3. If you are modding ODST, then rename Halo3ODST.xex to default.xex 9. Put the (Halo 3)default.xex, RTELauncher.xex, and RTELoader.xex in the Halo 3 folder. If you are modding ODST, than put the (ODST)default.xex,RTELauncher.xex, RTELoader.xex in your ODST folder. It will ask you if you want to overwrite your default.xex, say yes. 10. Open the Alteration version that allows RTH for JTAGs. ![]() 11. Go to the Settings by going to Edit > Settings. Here you will have to change your XDKName or JTAG name. Depending on which version of Alteration you have your screen might look like this: ![]() Or like this: ![]() Your XDKName is your JTAGs IP address. You can get your IP address in the NXE dashboard, Freestyle Dashboard, or XeXmenu. 12. Now plug your HDD back into your JTAG. Turn your JTAG on and navigate to your Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST directory. 13. Launch the RTELauncher.xex by clicking on it. Do NOT click the default.xex Also make sure to have Alteration open at this point. Your JTAG and computer running Alteration must also both be connected to your network. 14. This should launch the game. If you get kicked back to the dashboard, then check your flash directory. In that directory you should have a launch.ini and launch.xex file. If you do not, then you will need to get them from Xbins. Those are called dashlaunch. If your Xbox turns off, then you most likely don't have the the memory editing patch on your NAND. 15. When the game is loading during the intro(or in the main menu) it will give you a message saying that it is listening to your connection. Two messages should pop up. Just click confirm on both of them as long as you have Alteration open on your computer. The messages are just telling you that your Xbox is trying to connect to your computer. 16. Start a game on whatever map you want. If you want to mod Foundry, then you're going to need the corresponding .map file. The .map file for Foundry is called warehouse.map 17. Open the map you want to mod on your computer(in my case, warehouse.map) in Alteration. To do so, click on File > Open Map and find the map you want to mod. 18. Once you have the map open it should look something like this: ![]() 19. The list of tags on the left side is where different parts of the game are broken down into categories. So, if you were to find the proj tag it would represent projectiles that guns shoot. If you were to find the weap tag that would represent the weapons. 20. We will just do a simple bit of projectile swapping for an example. Go to the weap tag(the tags go in alphabetical order). 21. Click on the plus sign next to the weap tag. When you have done that, you're screen should look like this: ![]() 22. Find a weapon that you want to edit the projectile on. In my case, I will use the Assault Rifle. Your screen will most likely look like this: ![]() We need to change to the Meta editor, though. So click on the Editors button at the top middle part of Alteration. Go to Editors > Meta Editor. ![]() Once you have changed to the Meta Editor it should look something like this: ![]() 23. Scroll down almost all the way until you see the section called Barrels. Under Barrels you should see Projectile. The projectile that the Assault Rifle is currently shooting is objects\weapons\rifle\assault_rifle\projectiles\as sault_rifle_bullet. ![]() 24. Change that projectile to something else by going to the drop down arrow on the right side of the projectile. 25. I will be changing the projectile to a Ghost bullet which is objects\vehicles\ghost\weapon\ghost_bolt. ![]() 26. Once you have changed the projectile there is only one more step. Click on the Poke Options button at the bottom. From there you have two options Poke Changes or Poke All. You can click either one. ![]() You should get a message like "Changes successfully poked" after you poke the changes. 27. Now on your JTAG shoot your Assault Rifle. You should see that instead of the normal Assault Rifle bullets, you are shooting Ghost Bullets. This means that you have successfully poked the changes through your network and have done Real Time Halo. Congrats! When I talk about the xbox1 patch and the memory patch, I am talking about the patch bin file that comes with dash launch. When you are making your memory editing FreeBOOT image you just take the patch file that corresponds with your motherboard revision that came with dash launch and replace it in the patches folder of whatever program you are using to make your FreeBOOT image. Preferably FreeBOOT Toolbox Maker. Once you have done that and flashed your new image, then just put the kxam.patch in the root of your HDD and put the launch.ini and launch.xex in the flash directory of your Xbox.

Are you looking for the games' actual xex so that you can launch the game or are you looking for the xex that allows RTH?

I'm pretty sure that as long as you have the RTE Launcher and Loader, then you don't need any other files. The file that you are looking for is just the normal default.xex that comes with the game.

The game freezes or turns off in the main menu when i use the disk's default.xex and run the RTE launcher. and i know its not a bad rip because i can play when i run the default.xex. and i'm pretty sure it isn't the RTE loader and launcher because it works on halo 3.

I have ODST and H3Unlock will not work with my original xex saying it's not clean. How can I fix the xex to open up socket 5801 or download the files here?

Your xex was probably ripped using xexmenu or FSD, so it is not clean. You need to get the xex from the original disc by either downloading the ISO online, finding a clean copy of the xex already online, or ripping the disc on your computer and getting the xex.

I tried that and it still gives me the same error. The author of H3Unlock said that is a known problem with other regions and he made a version that ignores the unclean file, however the link is dead.

Are you doing RTH for H3 or ODST? I'll just give you the xex's you need. All of the files you need and more are in the Exclusive section as well, for future reference.

There was actually already a thread with all the map names for Halo 2/3/ODST/Reach. It's located here if you're interested.
