Testing and Upgrades

Just a quick update: there will be some downtime at some point this weekend. More on the exact time when I am more sure of when I will be doing it. It will most likely happen at some point tonight (Saturday) or tomorrow night. I don't anticipate more then 2 hours of downtime. 2 hours would probably be the most and I doubt I will even take that long.

During the process I will just be updating some behind the scenes stuff and attempting to fix problems with the site or just looking at possible ways to fix them.

I'll update this thread when I am closer to knowing when the downtime will be. Updates will be posted on our Twitter, Facebook, etc. when the downtime is occurring and when the site will be back up.

i think we should change the theme of this website its been like this since i joined back in January 2010, possibly since the site was created not sure, I wasn't here back then....out with the old in with the new.

In my honest opinion a complete revamp of the whole site is needed. I guarantee I'd be more active after something like that.

It actually hasn't been the skin for the site since January 2010. It's been the skin since March or April of last year. Anyway, I didn't want to mention this yet, but I've been thinking of upgrading to vBulletin 4 lately. So, we won't be getting a new skin until after the upgrade (if we do upgrade).

Honestly.. I don't think you should upgrade. While vBulletin 4 is ok, a lot of the really good mods were from 3x. I only wish I could get Meet our Staff from Hasan to work but it's 3x only.

Honestly, the meet our staff mod is a terrible one. It needs a lot of changes for it to be of an use for me. It's basically just each staff member's profile. There's no point to it. There should be extra fields and more detail to it.

And vBulletin 4 has the majority of mods that we need, I believe. There's only a handful of mods that are actually necessary and slowly, but surely everyone is converting to vBulletin 4 and stopping development with vBulletin 3. The initial release of vBulletin 4 was terrible. It had tons of bugs and wasn't ready for a release, but for some reason they released it anyway. It has now become a lot more stable and I think that it's time to upgrade as long as I can get most of the mods that we need for our forum. I'm going to continue looking into what mods are available and we'll see when and if I still want to upgrade.

Upgrading to vB v4 is the worst thing you could do.

Downtime will probably be in about an hour and a half to two hours from now. About 11:30 or 12:00 CST. The site should be back up by 1:30 or 2:00 AM CST at the latest.

We're back online. I work speedily. Upgrades are complete and hopefully the testing will help us better the site soon with the information that I have just learned.

There is a new like system in place too. Let me know your opinions on it. It's not replacing the thanks system, it's just a way to help me out behind the scenes and I don't know if you guys really care about it.
