Just a simple WOL solution for anything who wished to look into doing this with any WOL - Wake On Lan enabled network cards
First off on the PC you wish to turn on remotely make sure in the BIOS the feature is turned on to ether let your OS decide or enabled, you will have to look as most BIOS are slightly different on the wording, but if like most 9/10 PCs it will be enabled by default so just go to your advanced adapter settings on your PC and make sure it's enabled in the advanced menu of your adapter like below ![]() Now you need to set a static IP for any computers you wish to turn on remotely if you haven't already so it remains the same each time, this way we can record a log of all the PCs to turn on remotely for ease, your default gateway might be different so get all the required info from your router config page as they differ different routers, But all the info you need will be in there. You want to pick an IP address that isn't conflicting with any other devices, If you have a DHCP router most devices will get lower IP number allocations so just pick something high like i have "192.168.0.50" but always be below the last IP number in your range or you won't get internet access on that PC, Then get your LAN subnet which in my case and in most defaults will be 255.255.255.0, and you want your default gateway which for me is as you can see 192.168.0.1 which will also be your DNS server address, Pop all the information required in the adapter TCP/IP settings as pictured below ![]() Now you need to forward a port if your router by default doesn't support WOL on the lower port numbers. so it's worth a try without forwarding the ports such as 7, 8 or 9 but if here is a way to forward a port on a netgear router for an example. Create a Service or Rule as your router might call them; ![]() Then make the rule apply inbound to a certain IP address of your remote computer you want to WOL, in this instance 192.168.0.50 ![]() When that's done, Go to the PC you wish to install the software to turn on any PC's that support the feature and Download; http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3J2GTNQ6 After install you will see this when you run the program a nice simple little gui which you pop all the same information it asks for that you just put into the adapter settings on the remote PC to turn on. You can get the MAC address by going to "Start - Run, and typing "CMD - then IPCONFIG /ALL" and look for "mac address" of your adapter. ![]() Now give it a try.
